St. Maarten Golf Open - 22nd and 23rd April, 2017

The 25th Annual St. Maarten Golf Open was attended by 79 players representing St. Maarten, St. Martin (53 players) and countries as far afield as the UK, Netherlands, France,  USA, Canada and neighboring Caribbean islands of Bermuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla and Guadeloupe (26 players). The weather was kind to us yet again; much needed rain was received a week before the open and held off during the competition much to the relief of the tournament organizers.

Howard Hobgood emerged as the best player in the two day tournament with a cumulative score of 153 and successfully defended his Championship title albeit with a slightly higher score than last year. The prize for Tournament Overall Low Net was won by Didier Kerfour from St. Maarten with a total Low Net score of 135. The Championship flight with 13 players all with a handicap between 0-10, provided stiff competition throughout.

A welcome cocktail party was held at Sunset Beach Club on Friday evening during which a raffle was held for some great prizes.  Following the completion of the second round, a prize giving party was held at Sky Beach Bar and Lounge in Maho. In addition to the prize giving, there was a live auction and raffle prizes with some amazing hotel stays, restaurant meals, activities and gifts to be won both locally and overseas. Players and guests were treated to an open bar and snacks at both parties, compliments of the St. Maarten Golf Association and its sponsors who also provided, complimentary, all the food and beverage during the tournament.
