STEVE MIX 2ND ANNUAL 3-PAX SCRAMBLE

The 2nd Steve Mix Memorial Golf  Tournament held on Sunday 13th March was won by the team of Sam Bashir, Jenny Marzi and

Tim Ahlip. Held at the Mullet Bay Golf Course, the event organized by the St. Maarten Golf Association (SMGA) drew 14 teams,

consisting of 3 golfers each to the course.

 

The St. Maarten Golf Association hosted the event in memory of Steve Mix, an avid golfer and long-time St. Maarten resident who was a popular and much loved character on and off the greens.

 

The 14 teams fought a very close and competitive battle; there was only an 11 stroke difference between the winners and the team that came in last.

 

Eventually the Winners shot a stunning 62 stroke net score. Runner up was the team comprised of Andy Wescott, Arun Jagtiani and Jacob Streefkerk with a similar net score, but a lower average handicap. Similarly third place was taken by Steve Oostrom, Buzz Adamski and Clarence Derby who came in with the same 62 net score, but with an even lower average handicap for their team.

 

Steve Mix who often played golf barefoot was remembered in the same style as all contestants played their last hole barefoot while putting on the green with their drivers. Steve who was also a past president of the SMGA was a much loved person and an asset to

St. Maarten golf as well as to the island as a whole.
