ST. MAARTEN GOLF OPEN 19TH - 21ST APRIL, 2024

From a field of 61 local and international golf enthusiasts, St. Maarten resident, Kit Lee, became the Tournament Champion of the 28th annual St. Maarten Open Golf Tournament.
With a score of 81 gross, Kit was top of the leader board at the end of play on the first day of the two day tournament. He played even better on the second day with score of 76 which resulted in a 157 Low Gross score and thus the Champion title.
The prize for Tournament Overall Low Net was won by Hervé Thibaudeau with a total Low Net score of 135 beating the runner up by one stroke.
Under ideal conditions with a mild breeze and warm sunny weather, the two-day 36 hole tournament took place over the weekend at the Mullet Bay Golf Course. Players from both St. Maarten and St. Martin, were joined by a large group of golfers from Anguilla, Curacao, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, other neighboring islands as well as from Canada, USA, Great Britain and Germany.
The St. Maarten Golf Association SMGA was able to organize this top ranked tournament thanks to the great partnership with Mullet Bay Resort Golf Course, and the relentless efforts from its board members, volunteers as well as the tremendous support it received from both the local and international business community. Proceeds from the event will benefit pre-selected community organizations involving Youth Sports.
In the Champions category, the prize of 1 st Low Gross was won by Kit Lee from Sint Maarten with a score of 157 Low Gross, 1st Low Net was won by Jerry Semper from Curacao with a score of 151 Low Net. 2nd Low Gross was won by Christopher Gibbons from the United States of America with a score of 168 Low Gross and 2nd Low Net was won by Chris Hensley from St. Kitts and Nevis with a score of 154.
In the category Men’s 1st flight for players with a handicap between 11 and 15, Maarten van der Waart from the Netherlands came out on top with a score of 167 Low Gross, Kemarly Thomas from Antigua took first Low Net with a score of 144. In the Men’s 2nd Flight for players with a handicap between 16 and 30, first Low Gross was won by Jean-Baptiste Lugger from St. Martin 178, first Low Net went to Louis Assier de Pompignon with a score of 143.
In a strong field with a total of 6 female players joining the tournament this year, the prize for Low Gross in the Ladies category went to Marie Gibbons from the United States of America with a score of 173. Low Net was won by Joanne Ambron from the United States of America as well with a score of 145.
Max Thomas from Sint Maarten shot 161 to win Low Gross in the category Seniors for players over 50 years old, while Hervé Thibaudeau took 1st Low Net with a score of 135.
This year again there were a large number of players participating in the category Super Seniors for golfers over 60. Therefore, this category was split up for players with a handicap lower than 20 and a category with handicaps from 20 to 30. In the ‘Super Senior’s 1st Flight’ Jean Marc Greaux from Saint Martin won Low Gross with a score of 175 and Low Net was won by Harry Jansen from Curacao with a score of 145. The category ‘Super Seniors 2nd Flight’ was won by Keith Graham from Sint Maarten with a score of 188 Low Gross, Glenford Gumbs from Anguilla won Low Net in this category with a score of 150.
